Boosting Innovation & Competitiveness in Science &Technology (S&T) for Europe & India
S&T collaboration in the field of ICT between India and the EU has led to more than a hundred joint research projects in the last five years, yet the potential for more India-EU collaboration in new and emerging high-tech areas is huge. India will be a priority country for collaboration under the international dimension of the EU’s Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7) (2007-2013), to synergise with India-EC S&T Agreement.
The Euro-India ICT Co-operation and INCITE EC funded projects aim at consolidating the already well-established policy dialogue and partnership in S&T to help promote and accompany the development of ICT cooperation between the EU and India across research, academia and enterprise constituencies. These pioneering projects have done extensive work in bringing the European and Indian ICT communities closer, creating partnerships and developing new strategic ICT research alliances across the two regions, aiming to increase the collaborative R&D projects in the future.
The IST2006 Conference & Exhibition, the European Union’s biggest annual event in the ICT research field, organised by the Directorate General Information Society & Media of the European Commission, dedicated to Research, Innovation, Demonstration and Applications in the Information & Communication Technologies. It offers a unique opportunity to create and consolidate closer alliances between Europe & India, at the onset of FP7.
This event brings together a large number of key players from research, academia, industry as well as policy-makers from across Europe and other parts of the world. IST 2006 comes at a time when the EU looks forward to deeper and targeted cooperation initiatives with emerging economies such as India.
This year’s edition, taking place in Helsinki, Finland – 21-23 November 2006 will coincide with the launch of FP7 in which ICT continues to be the prime focus area and International Cooperation a key priority.
